MiniMax H3 is the video model MiniMax launched on July 31, 2026 and open-sourced three days later. It makes short clips with native stereo sound at up to 2K, and it is the default video model in Oraclip because it gives the most resolution per credit. This MiniMax H3 guide covers what the model is, what it does well, where it falls short, how to prompt it, and how it compares with Seedance 2.5 and Seedance 2.0. Every spec is taken from MiniMax's own announcement and model documentation, checked on October 22, 2026.

What is MiniMax H3?

MiniMax describes H3 as a general-purpose multimodal generation model. Instead of separate systems for text-to-video, image-to-video, references and editing, one model reads text, images, video and audio as a single context and generates video with sound. You may also see it called Hailuo 3, Hailuo H3 or just H3; MiniMax's Hailuo site confirms these are the same model.

MiniMax H3 strengths

  • Price per pixel. MiniMax says its 2K per-second price is under a third of mainstream models, and its 768p price under half their 720p. In Oraclip, MiniMax H3 is the cheapest video model per second, and 768P costs less than 2K.
  • Instruction following and text. MiniMax highlights accurate text and brand rendering, which helps with product shots, signs and title cards.
  • Sound included. Every clip comes with a soundtrack: ambience, effects or dialogue, depending on the prompt.
  • Open weights. Rare for a model at this level, and useful if you need to self-host.

MiniMax H3 weaknesses

  • 15 seconds per clip. For a longer single take you need Seedance 2.5, which runs to 30 seconds.
  • The soundtrack cannot be turned off. If you need a silent clip to lay your own music on, plan to replace the audio in an editor.
  • Fewer reference options in Oraclip. The general creator offers H3 for text-to-video and single-photo animation. If you want to copy motion from a reference video or mix many references, Seedance 2.5 is the better tool.

How to prompt MiniMax H3

MiniMax recommends describing the relationship between your inputs and the video you want in plain language, and its docs include a prompting guide for the H3-Context-IR step. In practice, a clear six-part prompt works well:

  1. Subject: who or what is on screen.
  2. Action: one main movement, described with a verb.
  3. Setting and light: place, time of day, weather.
  4. Camera: a single move such as a slow push-in, orbit or static shot.
  5. Sound: what we should hear, since H3 always renders audio.
  6. Ending: where the shot should finish.

Here is the prompt behind the frame below, shortened slightly: "A single hot air balloon with a warm red-and-cream striped envelope rises slowly above a sea of misty mountain ridges at sunrise. The balloon drifts upward and slightly right, gentle bob, faint flame glow from the burner briefly illuminating the basket. Low-lying fog pours between layered peaks [...] Slow, smooth camera move: wide establishing shot that gradually tilts up and creeps in with a subtle drone push. Calm, serene, majestic mood." It names one subject, one action, the light, one camera move and the mood. For more detail, see our AI video prompt structure.

Pick Seedance 2.0 for 1080p. The Seedance 2.5 vs 2.0 comparison explains the Seedance pair, and the best AI video models guide adds Kling 3.0 and Veo 3.1.

How to use MiniMax H3 in Oraclip

  1. Open the creator. MiniMax H3 is preselected as the default video model.
  2. Choose 768P to save credits while you test, or 2K for the final render.
  3. Pick a length from 5 to 15 seconds and an aspect ratio, or leave it on adaptive.
  4. Type the prompt, or attach one photo to use as the first frame. The image to video AI tool is the quickest path for animating a photo.
  5. Generate. The credit cost shows in the picker before you start.
